Ikenna Ikpeama
Masters in Forensic Science
Ikenna Ikpeama is a 2019 graduate of SUO’s Masters in Forensic Science program. He is currently working at the Maryland State Police Crime Lab. As a Crime Laboratory Technician, Ikenna says the most challenging part of his career is working in a place with a high crime rate but notes that this allows him to gain more experience.

- Completion of coursework and/or bachelor’s in a natural science field such as Biology or Chemistry, and/or completion of a bachelor’s degree with the appropriate prerequisite coursework from a regionally accredited institution.
- Completion of the following course prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better:
- General chemistry I and II and lab (8 credit hours)
- Organic chemistry I and II and lab (8 credit hours)
- Biology I and lab (4 credit hours)
- Calculus or statistics (3 – 4 credit hours)
- Physics I and II for science majors and lab (8 credit hours)
- Official college transcripts from all previous academic work. If the transcripts are from an institution located outside of the United States, students must submit an official course-by-course transcript evaluation from an organization that is a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). A member list is available on the .
- Cumulative and math/science GPA in past academic work of no less than 3.00 on a four-point scale.

Program Concentrations
- Forensic Biology: The forensic biology concentration prepares students with a biology background to apply their skills and become leaders in the field of forensic science. After completing the program, graduates of this concentration will be able to examine the science underlying DNA analysis, describe how DNA is analyzed, analyze serological evidence, and analyze immunological evidence.
- Forensic Chemistry: The forensic chemistry concentration prepares students with a chemistry background to apply their skills and become leaders in the field of forensic science. After completing the program, graduates of this concentration will be able to examine and understand the science underlying chemical analysis, analyze chemical evidence, analyze trace evidence, and describe the toxicology and chemical analysis required to isolate and identify drugs and toxic substances.
